Oskaloosa Robotics
Welcome to the 2014-2015 FTC Robotics Club registration night. After our very successful season last year everyone is very excited to get started. Saturday, September 6th at 11:00 Central time is the release of this year’s game. If you are new to the FTC robotics program I encourage you to browse the following web site http://www.usfirst.org/ for information regarding the mission and vision of UsFirst. There are three different programs under the UsFirst banner: FLL, FTC and FRC. We are involved with the FTC program. During the school year the team generally meets Monday – Friday, from 3:35 until 5:00 pm but students may leave earlier if needed. When we are getting close to a competition the coaches might agree to stay later. Some important dates: September 5 we will be helping at the football concession stand. We need both parents and students. Last year the stand started preparing at 4:00 but a different group is in charge this year so that might not be the same. We will put an announcement on the web site and remind your student during our meeting. September 6 we will be meeting at the school at 10:45 to watch the release of the new game. Parents and students are invited. There will be pizza after the video and some brainstorming. Future dates include: March 6-7 State of Iowa championship at Coralville March 26-28 Super Regional Competition to be held in Des Moines this year April 22-25 Worlds in St. Louis, Mo. Our website is located at http://oskyrobotics.weebly.com/ . This is where you will find the latest information, news about what the team is up to, pictures and contact information. If you would like to volunteer there are many different types of opportunities available. Please don’t hesitate to ask. The kids always like snacks while they are working – be warned they are a hungry bunch. One cookie per person just doesn’t impress them, lol. Volunteers are required to submit information for a background check. There is more information on the UsFirst.org web site.

Today, we are taking apart microwaves! Sounds cool, right? Because it is. :D Pictures are soon to be uploaded. The point of taking apart the microwave is to practice...well...everything! It "forces" (we do it willingly, I promise) us to communicate with each other, Use tools, and practice safety. Coach Dixon also set it up so that we take "shifts." Basically, every 5 minutes, those in your group, switch. One person goes from taking apart, to writing in the notebook, to video taping/taking pictures. That way everyone can get a feel of what everything is like. It's pretty awesome!
Side note: Parent/student open house this THURSDAY at 6:30 PM until 8. Hope to see you there! Hello parents, boys, and girls. As the second day of robotics came and went we set some goals and ideas. The goals we have at this moment are new and include making a file in google docs for the 2014-2015 season, get the game manual part one/host a release party with other teams, find out about what motors are aloud this season, date codes, and a shopping list. More on the way! The parent meeting is now official for Aug 28 at 6:30 make plans to come! Hope to see you there.
The release date for the official game rules, etc is September 6. It's a Saturday and we are are now officially inviting other teams from the surrounding area to come join us! RSVP now. We'll be sending out invites in the near future. :) Hey parents, kids, ladies and gentlemen! As the second day of school came and went, robotics started. :)
We will be hosting an open house. The date is not official yet, but we are aiming for Thursday, August 28th at 6:30. We will start off with a video presentation, show the kids the website, and finally introduce them to the robotics room, etc! To the kids reading this: invite your friends! It's an open house. We strongly encourage a larger team. The more kids, the more brains thinking. Announcements/emails will be sent out when the time gets closer. |
