On Saturday, March 21, several members of the Sock Monkeys went out around town to do charity work and promote FIRST. In the morning, Hunter, Giovanni, Nick, and Dominick went to the MCSC, a local children's soccer club, to inflate balls, pack first aid kits, and talk to the players about first. While they're too young for FTC, there is an FLL team in Oskaloosa. In the afternoon, Giovanni, Ethan, and Dominick handed out information flyers at the Oskaloosa Relay for Life. Some of the participants recognized the team shirts they wore from news articles, and they were able to explain FTC in person.

We had a few members of the community/ one of Giovanni’s host parents attend the seminar. Giovanni, Ben, Ethan, and I (Dominick)went to the Oskaloosa Public Library. One of the reporters from our local newspaper the Osky Herald came to ask question about this years challenge/ how we were doing. I (Dominick) got a great suggestion from Mr. Dixon to bring the different styles of the Creo pieces along with us to the seminar. Ethan and Giovanni talked about their current/ future plans for programming, side projects, and helping Molly. Ben explained how he went to The World Championship last year and how he got his hair cut (refer to earlier post in notebook). Overall it was a lot of fun and a good way to let the first years/ noobies speak publicly. I (Dominick) became more comfortable speaking in front of small groups of people like a judging panel. Cookie Cutters and Monkey Gibberish Hey its Hunter! Caleb, Giovanni, and Ethan have been put in charge of “side projects.” As in improving our pit area, making more merchandise, and advocating the FIRST program. They are not technically side projects because they are just as important as what is happening in robotics. Dominick and I (Hunter) have been assigned creating a cookie cutter, and we along with Giovanni decided to make it Sock Monkey themed. We plan on creating them in Creo to allow changes if necessary, but we plan to only have to make it once. They will be the outline of the monkey head when the cookie is made the face will be frosted on by Molly, Sandra, and Gillian. Will be made for fundraising events, thanks to our sponsors, and for community and outreach in general. In more recent news Molly, Caleb, Gillian, Giovanni, Dominick, and I (Hunter) visited The Mahaska Board of Advisors as well as the Courthouse Annex this morning. Molly took the lead at the Board of Advisors meeting at the courthouse. We were asked about homeschool/ out of town kids joining the Sock Monkeys. CRI and Osky News were there as well videotaping the meeting. Members of the community, Mrs. Eveland’s Husband and Gillian’s Mom were also there. Gillian and Logan’s Mother works at the Annex allowing us to set up the meeting with her business partners. At the Annex we all spoke about what our part was in robotics as well as what we put into the robot itself. I (Hunter) took the lead on the Annex meeting showing the Creo parts that Dominick and I (Hunter) created for the elevator slide. Also explained what the lego wheels in the front of the robot do. Gillian talked about the other opportunities the FIRST program offers, and also explained that our members are in more activities than just robotics. That happens because of the schedule that has been set in stone. As a team we work over 330+ hours a month it sounds like a lot but for us its the equivalent of having a part time job. Robotics is a very supply and demand kind of academic extra curricular activity. Every Sock Monkey is dedicated the the FIRST program, ensuring that we maintain gracious professionalism and as much success as possible in the engineering world. Book moving at the Public Library Hey, it´s Giovanni. Since William, the director of the Oskaloosa Public Library, is my host father he asked me to help move books in the Library. After we were at the 4H this morning, Sandra, Molly, Dominick and me went over and helped. We helped reorganize the Non- Fiction section on the second floor for about one hour, because the Library is separating the Biographies from the Non- Fiction section. We moved books to make space for the Biographies and cleaned off the shelves. *1. Championship Live Stream*
